Here’s another home remedy tip for acne.

Wash your face with bananas.

Say what? That’s what I also thought. But one reader emailed me this tip after reading the potato home remedy post.

She said it helped her a lot.

Here’s what she advised you to do.

  1. Wet a paper towel and rinse your face with it.
  2. Get a piece of banana and rub it all over your face.
  3. Wait for two minutes.
  4. Get another wet paper towel and wash the banana away.

Not too difficult.

Finally eat the rest of the banana as a healthy snack.

After quick search it turns out banana is a fairly common ingredient in home made face masks. Here’s one that I found for oily and acne prone skin.

You need:

  • 1 banana
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • Orange or lemon

Instructions:

  1. Mix the banana and honey together.
  2. Add a few drops of juice from an orange or a lemon.
  3. Apply to face for 15 minutes before rinsing with a cool washcloth or a steaming warm washcloth.

Try them out and let me know how they work for you.

I like this idea! However, a word of caution re: the use of a paper towel. Paper products, including TP, tissue and puffs that are not 100% cotton, really should not be used on the face.

As these are all wood pulp products and as such can cause microscopic ‘cuts’ to the skin allowing even more opportunity for bacteria to penetrate the skins surface. Not good for anyone, but a really bad idea for someone who is fighting acne!

    You thoughts Seppo?

Don’t know about microscopic cuts. Could be true, and if so, could allow more bacteria to enter the skin pores.

Still, I’d guess that the effect is minimal. But it’s just my guess.
