Condoms cure acne

Here’s an acne cure you haven’t heard of.

There’s a brand of condoms in Cambodia that has lubricant that seems to help with acne.

Telegraph newspaper in the UK reports:

Number One Plus, a water-based lubricant produced by health organisation Population Services International (PSI), is an excellent cure for acne, 29-year-old vendor Tep Kemyoeurn told news agencies.

Apparently Cambodian women have been applying lubricant from these condoms on their faces and seeing their pimples vanish in few days.

Whoever came up with that? I have no idea.

My guess is that the lubricant contains antibacterial or similar substance that kills bacteria and hence ‘cures’ acne.

You can read the full Telegraph story here: Condom lubricant cures acne

If you are not getting any because of acne, now you have a good reason to buy condoms. So it at least looks like you have a sex life : )

And who knows, maybe these things do work, and you could start using condoms for what they were made of. Despite this seeming dual purpose, I don’t recommend using the condom you used for sex on you face – or vice versa.

Do use different condoms.

OK, enough of stupid jokes.

Have a great day, and DO buy Clear for Life (just had to work that in).

    Dear Seppo,
I have a question unrelated to the above article but to your clear for life programme. I dont have acne any longer but i have quite congested skin and large open pores, across my nose, cheeks, chin…any where i have skin it seems!
Can your programme help with that?

    Regards,
    Belle.

Anyone know how/where/if these can be purchased online? (I live in the US.) Or, does anyone know if any more popular (i.e. easier to obtain in the US) condom brands have similar lubricant ingredients?

Belle, do you mean that your skin pores are clogged and perhaps have blackheads?

If so Clear for Life should help for that also. Most people notice reduction is sebum production and less dead skin cells. Those should help to keep skin pores open also.

Rossy, I wrote this post more as a joke than a serious suggestion.

Still, I don’t think the acne curing properties of condoms are restricted to that particular brand.

As far as I know most condoms come with spermicides applied to the lubricant. This spermicide probably kills bacteria on the skin and helps with acne.

So I’d assume you could try with any condom and it could still work.

And if it doesn’t perhaps it’s better to seek other options rather than trying a different brand of condoms.

Hi Seppo, thank you for your prompt response!
I personally wouldn’t tend to rely on any one thing to try to cure my acne- improving my diet has been the only thing to really help that along, but no matter how silly the suggestion, every little bit of extra help is welcome, you know?

I do actually have a question about something else that you’ve mentioned in a previous post. You said that whole grains are actually not so great for you. I was wondering if certain types of these foods are more acceptable than others? Or am I just supposed to cut out breads, cereals, crackers, noodles, etc. altogether? Sounds sad.

  6. Seppo Says:

Rossy, grains just aren’t human food. Compared to fruits they taste awful and don’t make me feel very good. That’s why I eat them only rarely.

If you want to eat grains and foods made out of them go for gluten-free foods. They are not so bad as gluten is the biggest culprit in grains. You should be able to find gluten-free breads and other foods from a well stocked supermarket or health store.

  7. Brandyn Says:

Seppo if you dont eat grains what do you eat for your main source of energy? I eat a good amount of fruits and vegatables but i still need a base like grains to give me enough energy. Ive tried white and brown rice,, doesnt seem to work, refined oats seem to work, but thats alot of oats. ???

  8. Seppo Says:

    Brandyn,

I eat mostly fruits and vegetables. Occasionally I eat grains also, but not very often. Rice and potatoes are better than wheat and other gluten grains.
